Xóchitl Castañeda


Xóchitl Castañeda has been the director since 2001 of the Health Initiative of the Americas, a program of the University of California Berkeley, School of Public Health. His leadership has allowed the creation of binational programs to improve the health and quality of life of migrants in the United States. Among them, the binational health weeks and the health windows in several consulates of Latin American countries. Through these strategies, thousands of people receive medical care and guidance on how to obtain services from government and community agencies in the United States.

She graduated as an anthropologist from the National School of Anthropology and History of Mexico. He has postgraduate studies in medical anthropology from Harvard University, the University of California, San Francisco and the University of Amsterdam, Holland. In 1999 he received the National Award for Research in Social Sciences and Health and recently, the California Legislative Caucus recognized his work with national recognition. She has published more than 150 scientific papers and has served as a consultant for more than 30 international organizations. He is a member of the Board of Directors of 9 international organizations.
